The Southern California Rainbow Society of the Deaf (SCRSD) was formed in June 1977, at a meeting of 22 people at the home of Bob Wickham and Bob Miller in Sherman Oaks, California. SCRSD later joined the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf, the national organization for deaf members of the GLBT community, and hosted the Alliance's 1993 national conference.
The collection contains administrative records, including the constitution and by-laws, minutes, membership and chapter address lists, and newsletters of the Southern California Rainbow Society of the Deaf (SCRSD), the Los Angeles chapter of the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (RAD), from 1977 to 1979. The collection also contains national Alliance and other regional chapter newsletters, 1977-1979.
The arrangement of the documents reflects their original order as they were found in a ring binder. Newsletters of other chapters and of the national organization, RAD, follow the chapter’s administrative records. Documents found loose in the front of the binder have been placed in the first folder, "Correspondence and Press Releases". Additional correspondence, memoranda and chapter newsletters can be found in the "Minutes" folder.
